Demi Lovato Shows Fans That Recovery is Possible with Inspiring Photo

We thought Demi Lovato couldn't be any more inspiring after watching extremely candid YouTube documentary Simply Complicated, which premiered earlier this week. The 25-year-old singer proved us wrong, though, by posting an astonishing before-and-after photo on her Instagram story shortly after the documentary came out. The side-by-side photos document Demi's journey as she struggles with bulimia. The first photo depicts a malnourished Demi during some of her most difficult days with the disease. The second photo shows an older and healthier Demi, who is learning how to live with and manage her eating disorder. She posted the photos with a simple, yet important, message to her fans: Recovery is possible.

This post feels even more empowering due it's proximity to the release of Demi's Simply Complicated documentary. The "Sorry Not Sorry" singer revealed the depth of her struggle to conquer her eating disorder during the film, explaining that "when I feel lonely, my heart feels hungry. . . . Food is still the biggest challenge in my life. It's something that I'm constantly thinking about. Body image, what I'm going to eat next, what I wish I could be eating, what I wish I didn't eat. It's just constant."

While managing an eating disorder is often a constant struggle for those afflicted, Demi showed her fans how she has learned to deal with it on a day to day basis. Working on her physical fitness has been a huge help for the singer, especially practicing MMA and jujitsu, which keeps her feeling physically and mentally healthy.

Shout out to Demi for always keeping it real and showing her fans that recovery for eating disorders is possible. She's a beacon of hope for anybody struggling with their own demons right now.
